Taking A Metal Folding Chair From Boring To Brilliant

Posted by Heidi in

Behold, the chair in question . . (boring!) (and ugly!)

See the lovely little sander? I highly recommend using one if you are going to paint (painting is a good idea--using Ballet Slipper Pink by Krylon is an even better idea, tho you might want to use something a little more nuetral so you can make different covers for the holidays).

Those of you who sew will have no problem figuring out how to do this. Those of you who don't (like me) can fudge it (like I did). The bottom piece is just one layer with a ruffle around it--it sits there looking pretty like a well-trained, proper Victorian Miss is wont to do. If desired, one can add ribbon to tie it securely at the legs in the back (the seat cover, not the proper Victorian Miss). Or, you can make a case for filling so that it's more comfy. This chair is mostly forced into service as a step stool and used to do a lot of hanging around looking ugly during its off hours. Now, when busy loafing, it at least earns its keep as an object of beauty.

That is so adorably cute! Dang it, I just sold 4 metal folding chairs in my garage sale for $10! I couldn't think of anything to do with them~
I love how you use pink so much. I turned a 4th bedroom in our house into a little den for myself, my little private retreat away from sickness. I painted the walls soft green and put pink and lace and flowers EVERYWHERE! I love it...it's where I sit to read or play on the computer. Love me a girly-girl room!

Loverly, just loverly! Too bad we can't do that with all the ratty chairs we have at church... wait, maybe we can! Can't you just see them, a room full of primary colored painted ones? Ooh, I'm going to go call my primary president!

Oh my dear cousin,
You continue to amaze and delight me with your wellspring of talent. I am so impressed with your creative juices flowing all over your home. It is beautiful to behold (and functional as well). You should be the enrichment leader.

Oh Heidi, I just had the most scathingly brilliant idea. What about a cousin trip to England to visit the old Baldwin homestead. Wouldn't that be a kick with Debbie, Tracie, Janeth, Me you and all your siblings? Oh the trouble we could cause, let us think about this seriously.

Not only is the chair brilliant, but you are as well.

I am trying to think how I can turn the very similar ugly folding chair on which I am sitting right this very minute, into an objet d'arte. My style is quite different from yours, but I think it could work. I will put it on the list to do. (Having just moved, I have quite the list!)

Wow-you are amazingly creative! Bookes, chairs, massive amounts of fabric that you do brilliant things with... I'm impressed.

How cute is that!! You remind me of my older sister Terri (which is a huge compliment). She can turn anything plain into something beautiful. Good job!!

Can I be your cousin?

Princess would absolutely go ga-ga over this chair! Beautiful!

I've been checking out craft blogs, and am inspired. Not that I can do anything about it with a baby hanging on me all day, but I'm storing ideas to use in a few months.

Can I be your cousin too?

Now I'm sitting around trying to figure out what to do with my boring white chairs. . .
