Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind Book Giveaway

Posted by Heidi in

It’s hard to impress The Spouse with my writing fame. After all, he knows the woman behind the profile picture. He took it. He knows that I chose the one of dozens that somehow did not illuminate my wrinkles, that I had just dyed the gray out of my hair the day before and that I touched up the final photo to hide the skin imperfections (read: zits). He also knows the reason I chose not to smile with my teeth showing for that particular photo shoot. (I’m not going to get into it here, let’s just say there was an unfortunate run-in with tetracycline at a young and tender age.)

As a result, a conversation between The Spouse and I might go like this:

Me: Guess what? I’m doing a giveaway of Miss D on my blog this week!

Him: That’s nice.

Me: And, it’s going to be a signed copy!

Him: Oh, goody. (In his defense, my signature, which litters dozens of checks each month to pay all those darn bills, is about as rare as that of a drug-addicted doctor (and about as legible) so he doesn’t put much stock in that kind of thing.)

Me: So, I guess that means you aren’t going to drop a note in my comment box so you can be entered to win your own free copy of Miss D?

Him: Uh—no!

Me: Uh—okay.

The truth is, the above is a total work of fiction. After all, I pay the bills online, no signature required.

The truth also is, I am giving away a free copy of Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind this week and it will be signed! By moi! Semi-legibly! Don’t all jostle for the comment box at once, you crazy fans, you! But, yes, if you want to be entered for the contest, you need to leave a comment in today’s post. If you want to be entered twice, copy and paste the picture of my book cover and put it somewhere in your own blog. If you want to be entered thrice, link back to this post (please let me know if you do so I can go to your blog and admire the view).

Meanwhile, a blog tour of Miss D will commence tomorrow. Check back here to find out who will be the first stop on this crazy tour full of fun and hilarity (well, I can’t promise that but there’s always hope). Oh, and the contest for the book-win will go on for as long as the tour (not sure yet exactly what day--sorry! I'm great at starting things, not so good at ending them).
This just in: a scrump-dilly-ishiss review of Miss D (you have to scroll down to the top of page 19--a pain, I know . . .)http://www.claytonpioneer.com/CEPDFS/2008_Clayton_Pioneer_1205.pdf

December 2, 2008 at 10:23 AM

Your in my sidebar, but how do you enter me thrice. Am I supposed to comment thrice? I don't want to risk lowering my chances by not asking.

December 2, 2008 at 10:41 AM

Hillary sent me over here! I am always looking for a good book to read!

December 2, 2008 at 10:44 AM

You guys ALL rock! Lisa, a comment is one entry, cover in sidebar is entry #2, link back to the permalink of today's post is entry #3 (but I would love it if you commented thrice cause you are so funny!)

December 2, 2008 at 10:45 AM

ooh oooh oooh Pick me! pick me!
How cool!!!
WOWY ZOWY!!! :)

December 2, 2008 at 10:49 AM

I would love to win!

December 2, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Oh, oh, oh...Pick me! Pick Me! I know that I am a relation and that I will buy my own copy or two or three (you know, for loaning out. I don't loan out my own personal copy, I don't like other peoples DNA on my own personal books). So please put my name in the proverbial hat and draw it out.

Yippee-doo! I'm excited!! I'm in a rush, so I'll just take this one entry right now, but I'll be back!!

December 2, 2008 at 12:17 PM

I want to win too! But if I don't, I'll be ordering it on Amazon :)

Maybe I just blew my chances, since you know I'll buy it anyway.

December 2, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Roxanne, I will try really hard not to besmirch the book with my DNA as I package it up (should you win), Christine, I'm amazed you are willing to enter considering the fate of your lavendar sachet you won (I'm still planning on doing those!)Rachel, I promise, it will be a fair drawing and I am happy to send it to you should you win, Amazon sale or no Amazon sale.

December 2, 2008 at 12:41 PM

Hmmmmm...

a one in fifteen chance.

I say close this thing to comments right now.

December 2, 2008 at 12:43 PM

Oooo, oooo, PICK ME! I'm right here, pick me! Love the "conversation" between you and the hubby. Sounds like a recurring convo I have with my hubby, minus the fact that I haven't written a book and don't have it to give away in a super-spiffy giveaway like this one!

December 2, 2008 at 12:51 PM

Hi! Me! Please? ME ME ME ME ME!!!! Come on, you know you want to pick me. Please?

December 2, 2008 at 12:55 PM

Ummm, I have you on my sidebar and am just about to post a link to your blog. Although, there are already 2 links on my blog to your blog- in my blog stalking sidebar and if they click on the picture of your book. But you can never have enough links, eh?

December 2, 2008 at 1:06 PM

Rott, as usual, you CRACK me up! Brillig--you are right. Youngblood, you are also right, there can never be too many links BUT it needs to be to today's post, a permalink, not just a link to my blog. That's so other people can find the contest. Of course, this limits your chances, whilst increasing them at the same time. ;)

December 2, 2008 at 1:10 PM

My question is this: has your husband read your book? If he hasn't, will he? I know our husbands support us, but sometimes they just aren't that excited about what we do (I know my husband isn't excited about my blog, for instance). I would love to win!

December 2, 2008 at 1:41 PM

He told me he would read it when it became a book. So, when I got the advanced reader copy (I blogged about it the beginning of August) he read it and he loved it. Or he said he did. Actually, he read some of it out loud to me and I read some of it out loud to him (and he read some of it quietly to himself like normal people do).

December 2, 2008 at 1:58 PM

Pardon me, but may I play, too?

You're very kind.

December 2, 2008 at 2:02 PM

Can I get in the hunt?

December 2, 2008 at 2:07 PM

Can't wait to see who wins. I want it to be me... :) Nothing better than being 8 months pregnant and having a good book to read.

Side note: To have your husband read your book and love it, really is there anything better?

Thanks for the giveaway. I will put you on my side bar with a link. :)

December 2, 2008 at 3:05 PM

Stuart, er, I mean KING, yes you can play! Roy boy, no you can't. Didn't you read my post today about how you said you weren't going to try to win a copy? You really need to follow directions better. Combs--I agree, there are few things better than having your husband say that he loves your tale of love and romance. It really gives one the feeling that you are all on the same page. ;)(I also really liked one of his first remarks when he first started reading it when he said "It's like watching a movie!" I think that's a good thing. I hope.)

December 2, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Um, yes, I want to win. Pick me, pick me!

December 2, 2008 at 3:24 PM

All right Reed, you got me! I thought King must not be you but then I saw that King is following me YET the number of followers did not go up--so I checked and Rott is gone, replaced with King. You are a sly devil.

December 2, 2008 at 3:34 PM

May I please enter as well? I posted, I linked, and I pictured. Would you like me to grovel too?

December 2, 2008 at 3:41 PM

29 comments already. You rock!

I'd better win!

December 2, 2008 at 3:41 PM

It's so exciting! I already have a copy, but I'd love to have another to give to a friend....

December 2, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Eowyn--I know! I guess I finally came up with something good to give away, huh? (makes a diff!) Sherbugs--this is the first time you have been here and lo and behold, you followed directions to the letter! You get three entries! (and sorry about your daughter's rash but I'm happy for her that she isn't allergic to chocolate. quelle horreur!)

December 2, 2008 at 4:13 PM

Ah, Luisa, you snuck in while I was commenting (on my own blog--I am such a narcissist)--everyone go to Luisa's post today to read the gorgeous poem she has there. I mean, just riveting! I can't believe I have never read it before. Love it!

December 2, 2008 at 4:15 PM

I WANT THIS BOOK! SIGNED. BY YOU.
PLEASE!
and you can sign any cheques you want to pay my bills ;) hahaha!

December 2, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Okay, so I've added and linked you too.
That's how much I want your book.
Actually, I really could just buy it instead, but this is fun too!
And if I don't win, I will buy it.
My mother is looking for it too. (She's the administrative librarian at BYU)

December 2, 2008 at 4:26 PM

Abra, clearly you are the girl to know! Is your mom the one who decides which books to buy for the library? (My bil is a proff at BYU Idaho but I don't think he has any clout in the library . . )

December 2, 2008 at 4:39 PM

That sounds awesome! Pick me! Pick me!

December 2, 2008 at 4:40 PM

Okay well, I tried to email you, but I hate Outlook, and everytime I click on it, it wants me to install Outlook. Why don't YOU email me, and I'll tell you what I know ;)

December 2, 2008 at 4:58 PM

Hey, count me in for one! (too pooped for more tonight!)

December 2, 2008 at 5:48 PM

Oh cool! What an awesome giveaway! Sign me up!

December 2, 2008 at 6:12 PM

I think that you are so funny and talented! Keep on writing. Please don't count me in on your prize drawing as I'm already entered, and it wouldn't be fair.
But.
I do promise I'll be looking for this book!

December 2, 2008 at 6:17 PM

Barb--no worries, Alyson--you bet, Aqua--you have me so darn curious! As if your profound and eloquent poetry isn't tantalizing enough! I. AM. SO. CURIOUS!

December 2, 2008 at 6:40 PM

I'm not entering since I already have the book. I'm just dropping by to grab your book photo and your link and say have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

verifier: therat. Have a nice day!!!!!!!! and yes, that's a therat!

I love that little blinky pinky chicky heart. JustRandi is cute.

December 2, 2008 at 7:40 PM

I want your book!

I'll still buy it, even if I don't win. Promise :)

December 2, 2008 at 7:46 PM

Hi Heidi--you read several of my daughter's blogs, and you are one of several published authors who reads her blog. And I am a librarian. So I will probably NOT buy your book, but I will definitely check it out.And if my library hasn't ordered it, I will see that we do. And if you are an LDS author, as I think you are, we will most likely buy two copies. Good luck--I hope it does better than Twilight. I prefer regency to vampires.

December 2, 2008 at 7:58 PM

And I meant "daughters'blogs" because I have seen your comments on the blogs of more than one of them!

December 2, 2008 at 7:59 PM

If you're not picking randomly, you should totally choose me because I promise that my handwriting is completely illegible, and I need to see yours so I can have a model to learn from.

December 2, 2008 at 8:10 PM

Oooh...I want to win! I love Regency era stuff. :)

December 2, 2008 at 8:26 PM

A great review. I admit that I too was worried that I would hate the book but still love you. That could be awkward. I was thrilled that I loved the book.

Regency rocks. Politely, of course.

December 2, 2008 at 9:09 PM

Wow count me in I would love to be entered!

December 2, 2008 at 9:47 PM

I want one!

December 2, 2008 at 9:47 PM

wishing I had a blog so I could get entered more than once!

December 2, 2008 at 10:27 PM

Okay you totally know I want your book! And I already made a formal request at the local library. But that's not good enough. I need my own copy. In fact, I need one for my hubby too because i already want him to make it i not a movie (and I haven't even read it yet!) NOW your hubby should be convinced you're famous!

December 3, 2008 at 12:10 AM

Jana--cheez! I would love it if he made it into a movie! I really think it is wise to have him read it first. ;) Mariko, how about an illegibly signed bookmark as a consolation prize? Jami, love you too! And the rest of you ladies, thanks so much for your encouragement and support! I am floored by how well this giveaway is going! I really didn't expect this kind of response--thanks everyone!

December 3, 2008 at 8:00 AM

I would love to read your book! Sounds like my kind of book!

December 3, 2008 at 8:50 AM

Woo hoo Clayton Pioneer! I can't wait to pick up my copy today and read it! Sadly it is taking my ages to get through books nowadays but this one is definitely on my reading fast track!

December 3, 2008 at 12:12 PM

Hey don't forget to put my name in the pot! I am meeting so many talented friends through blogging!

December 3, 2008 at 12:54 PM

I love books and yours looks great. I always judge by the cover. Please don't let it be like that movie where "miss someone lives for a day" but she has to spend the day with a vapid slut. Hated to see the Enchanted girl sleep her way to the top.

December 3, 2008 at 10:17 PM

Kelline--you are entered! Jen, considering yesterday, are you entering? ;) Kris--I did enjoy that movie BUT, no, this is a very clean book full of noble, if sometimes cranky, people. :)

December 4, 2008 at 7:10 AM

Ha I am going to buy one more book in February at signing #2 so I don't officially need to be entered!

December 4, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Jen, you are a loyal local consumer!

December 4, 2008 at 12:43 PM

Put me in times 3!

December 4, 2008 at 3:30 PM

Hey, I need more books to read right? I'd even post a review semi soon after reading :)
(just don't tell the hubby I said that... something about my blogs running my life and all that?)

December 4, 2008 at 3:32 PM

Kelly, I saw Miss D on your blog so I got you already--I like your new profile pic! Thanks! T, I got you too (and I promise not to tell your hubby).

December 4, 2008 at 10:33 PM

December 5, 2008 at 11:09 AM

I am sure this will be wonderful sense Melissa speaks so highly of it. Hopefully I can be a winner. I could use a good book.

December 5, 2008 at 3:35 PM

It's been a while, but I used to DEVOUR regency romances. And I assume, from reading you, that it will be clean fun! Which is not always the combo with the books out there.

So yes, pick me pick me!

December 6, 2008 at 5:52 AM

I wish you the best with your book!!! If I don't win, then what the hey! I will buy a copy. I lvoe to support blogging peeps!

December 8, 2008 at 8:31 AM

December 9, 2008 at 8:26 AM

Hi, Heidi. It's been many years since I've seen you. Congrats on getting your book published. Unfortunately, I have no blog to post your info in, so I can only enter once. Still, it was so nice to read your blog and see your picture. Three kids...wow. Well, enjoy yourself and have fun. And greetings from Utah.

December 9, 2008 at 8:51 AM

I read about your book on Superfluous Miscellany and promptly put it on my wish list for Christmas, only to find out it doesn't come out until the day before Christmas...so I'm commenting in the hopes that I will be the lucky recipient!

December 9, 2008 at 9:04 AM

I would love a book!

December 9, 2008 at 10:45 AM

Not only am I commenting so I can win---but I am an official follower! I am nothing if not a shameless blog award-seeking crazy face.
And I have a heart attack for a minute while I tried to figure out which of your million blogs the competition was on! :)

December 9, 2008 at 12:04 PM

It may not be generally acceptable to toot one's own horn, my dear, but in matters such as these I think it is permissible. Indeed it may be necessary to garner the attention required to win.

Pray, choose me.

December 9, 2008 at 1:41 PM

I'm always in search of a great new book to read, so sign me up!

December 9, 2008 at 3:36 PM

I'm SO glad that you stopped by my blog today and told me about this because my love for Jane Austen runs deep. I'm also a big fan of good ol' P.G. Wodehouse and his boy Jeeves.

P.S. I'm so following you now. :)

December 9, 2008 at 4:46 PM

Jeeves is the bee's knees, Heather, but Bertie is the gut-buster, especially as played by Hugh Laurie back in the day. If you haven't seen those epps (4 seasons of 6-8 episodes each) run, don't walk, to your nearest video outlet. Or just do Netflix, much easier on the feet.

Am I too late? Did I miss it??!!!

If not, count me in....I would love to say that I know a real live author! And I would love to read a book that I don't have to return in three weeks or lose it and then have to pay 20 cents a day for until I find it, which usually accumulates to $20.00 before I do, at which point I might as well have bought the darn thing! And if I don't win it, tell us all when and where we can get a copy of our own??

December 10, 2008 at 12:09 AM

Sue Q, you were nine minutes late BUT I like your style, girl, so you are entered. Yay!
