My Seriously So Obsessed Substance Abuse Problem

Posted by Heidi in

Sunday I made bread with my own two hands (and a bread machine) so it was only natural that I should want to taste it. Which I did. Repeatedly. From there it was a short fall to sampling the pizza (made with my own two hands—and D’Giorno) and then just a hop, skip and a jump to eating those nine chocolate chip cookies made by me (with a little help from Chips Ahoy) replete with wheat, sugar and those nasty preservatives that always make me feel so wonky. (Hey, I had milk with some of them!)

Yesterday didn’t go much better. Which is why I am just too out of my mind to post today (that, and the fact that it is 38 degrees this morning—this is California for pity sakes!—and my fingers and brain are frozen. Here’s hoping it warms up to yesterday’s high of 44).

Oh wait, I guess I have already posted. And not only that, but I am a guest poster today at Is It Just Me, blog of a new bloggy friend, JustRandi. Aren’t friends great?

Just a reminder, this is the last day to comment for a chance to win one of the three signed copies of Miss D I am giving away, willy-nilly (click here). Get a second contest entry by choosing to follow my blog (but only if you want to—b/c I’m nothing if not compassionate and understanding and all that, especially when I have lots of warm bread, pizza and cookies in me tum-tum).

Be sure to check back tomorrow when I announce the winners of the Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind (a fun and funny Jane Austen era romantic comedy) Contest! !!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! (I hope it’s you!!)

I just KNEW you were hoping I'd win. I could feeeeel it.

Sorry you're feeling wonky. I loved the post on JustRandi's blog. Poor sick Heidi! Half appropriate that you aren't feeling your best on the day that it was posted. Still hope you get feeling better!

It seems like I just barely read a post about you not feeling well...
Hey, wait a minute!

Thanks for letting me guest post you today. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I'm secretly hoping it gets me another entry into the drawing, seeing how I got totally gypped on the follower thing. ;)
Hope you feel better soon!

December 9, 2008 at 8:33 AM

Okay, Randi, you convinced me (of course, anything for my blog tour buddies!)

December 9, 2008 at 8:36 AM

Beautiful tree! Oh, you poor babies in CA. 38? How can you bear it, really? ;-)

December 9, 2008 at 8:37 AM

I had the same substance abuse problem yesterday, and I am even on a strict diet that doesn't allow anything of the sort. Gah. Hope you feel better soon!

December 9, 2008 at 8:47 AM

Gorgeous Tree!!!!

December 9, 2008 at 9:07 AM

Hey, came over from JustRandi. A book where Austen meets Gracie? sounds good;).

Hope your three kleenex box habit gets better soon.

December 9, 2008 at 9:42 AM

Its freezing here! Hope you are feeling better. I would love to have an autograph book written by a blogger I know..........

December 9, 2008 at 10:00 AM

You crack me up! You and some of your food "helpers" should open shop!

Your tree photo was beautiful. I am guessing your husband didn't take it!

December 9, 2008 at 10:12 AM

Alyson, I know, aren't we spoiled? (we really are!) Lara, I am so sorry for your loss (of real food eating abilities--I'm supposed to be on a strict diet, too!), Sabrina, thanks! And Kazzy--you are right, I took the pic. That is last year's tree--I cracked up when I saw it because the very same front middle section has the exact same ornaments on it this year. I didn't realize I was so stuck in a groove, Hi Mormon hermit mom, welcome! (the cold was in January, and again in May, but I'm not sneezing now, thank goodness!), Kelline, thank you! I'll be putting all the names in a hat tomorrow morning! . . ..can't wait!

bread is highly addictive, doesn't help that the Savior is the BREAD of life. Is the Holy Ghost the chocolate then :::OHH:

LOL

December 9, 2008 at 11:54 AM

Yum...chocolate chip cookies. I just want you to know, I've commented twice and become an official follower in the space of ten minues. It's madness.

December 9, 2008 at 12:05 PM

Stacey, clearly I'm doomed. Barbaloot--love the madness! You are entered into the contest twice! (sorry, only the first comment counts but I'm so glad you did! er, comment twice, that is)

Yummy Sunday treat!... And as for 38 degrees in California, I can truly understand... I had planned a Southern vacation in New Orleans to escape the brutal NY temperatures for over a week... and guess what.. even there it went right into 40s!! Of course still better than the 20s and 30s.. but I had expectations of 60s!

December 9, 2008 at 1:00 PM

Aw, shucks, Dots-that stinks! Weather is something you can never really count on. Missed seeing you around the blogosphere! Glad you're back!

December 9, 2008 at 1:02 PM

Well, if it's any consolation, it's minus 8 here and there's about a foot of snow.
We had a freak blizzard on SUNDAY and it's supposed to snow more this weekend.
Gross.
Also, FOOD is like Money... you need it, you crave more, but yet, it would be so much better if you didn't have to have it.

December 9, 2008 at 1:13 PM

Hey I just bought the book if thats ok with you. Should be here by Thursday.

December 9, 2008 at 3:34 PM

ARGH! My comment just erased before it posted.

Basically, I said, I eat way too much flour too, but in a much more sophisticated way. Something about 6 cookies never being enough. Bleh.

December 9, 2008 at 4:01 PM

I'm so glad you hope it's me.

How is LisAway always the first commenter? Does she have super powers or what?

Once again, funny lady, you are SO funny :)

December 9, 2008 at 4:10 PM

Abra--yikes! We did have a week of below 0 weather when we lived in colorado (we were so dumb as to take our kids out shopping at an open air mall when the wind factor was minus 24) so I sort of know what that is like--but honestly, houses built is snow country are much more weather tight than here in California. Hrumph!! Janelle, why on earth would I mind? (doing a happy dance!) Mariko--your substitute answer was plenty sophisticated (and funny so no complaints here!) and so true. Six is NEVER enough. Aughhhh! (That's a Charlie Brown-got-rocks-in-my-trick-or-treat-bag kind of augh)

December 9, 2008 at 4:14 PM

Heather, yes, you, I hope it's you! (Lisa, yes, you, I hope it's you!) You are all right! (well, most of you, anyway . . )

December 9, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Ah, thanks for stopping by my blog today and saying you like my style! Actually I think your word was LOVE.
:) And I've only read this post, but I'll have to say that I'm a fan of your style too. And I ♥ your culinary skills. They are so much like mine! And I'm so excited to read your book. I'm off to go enter myself with probably the other 487 people.

December 9, 2008 at 4:32 PM

P.S. Did you ever watch Gilmore Girls? You look a lot like April's mom to me. Am I the first to tell you that?

December 9, 2008 at 4:33 PM

Heather--I LOVE you! Yes, we watched the entire series on DVD, like back to back. BTW, you are the first to say that I look like Lauren Graham. Thanks!

December 9, 2008 at 5:11 PM

Did I miss it?

Can't wait to read more!!

December 9, 2008 at 6:44 PM

Hey, I read this earlier and realized I never commented because I clicked on Justrandi and got side tracked.

So today my favorite part about that interview was all that snot and nose blowing. Thank you so much for sharing all that snot. ;)

I also could totally relate to the whole first part.

December 9, 2008 at 8:17 PM

I hope its me too! =)

December 9, 2008 at 8:21 PM

Ummm, Crash, thanks for that! I think. I'm so sorry that you can relate. I had a re-run of the whole January thing in May. In MAY! Not fair. Glad you enjoyed it (even tho it's a little creepy . .)

December 9, 2008 at 9:22 PM

Mmm...now I want to go make bread...

I hope I win!

Wait...did I even enter?

It's been a rough couple o'days here.

December 9, 2008 at 9:30 PM

Kim--you're entered now! (sorry about the rough couple of days!)

December 9, 2008 at 9:36 PM

Your title made me laugh out loud! And I totally share your bread fetish.

Kazzy let me borrow her copy of Miss D and I'm finding it to be a delightful read thus far. Go, Heidi!

December 9, 2008 at 10:46 PM

Jana, I am so jealous that you and Kaz live close enough that you can share books and clothes and kids and whatever you want. Pout. I am so going to Utah sometime in the near(ish) not too distant(ish) future!

December 9, 2008 at 10:50 PM

I hope it's meee too.

That Crash Test Dummy interview was priceless, as were all the comments that followed. And next time you see her, tell her she's welcome to any cookie exchange of mine.

December 10, 2008 at 1:06 PM

I didn't know it ever got that cold in California.

December 11, 2008 at 4:37 AM

Heather, yes, who knew? Having lived here 42.5 of my 44 years, I am also surprised. (glad to see you!) Eowyn--alas and alack, I don't "see" Crash. She lives in Hawaii of all places! What kind of place is that to celebrate Christmas, I ask you? (It's a dandy place to celebrate spring and summer and vacation anytime, though.)
