You Know It's Bad When Your Two Year Old Gives You "That" Look

Posted by Heidi in

My home is tumbling down around my ears. I “cleaned” it up last week for
Jami and other visitors the day of the big book signing, but it was all a façade, a brilliant re-positioning of our possessions that lent itself to the illusion of cleanliness--but wasn’t. For whatever reason, perhaps in reaction to Crash’s post yesterday, I am filled with the intellectual vim and vigor required to get my house in order. (It remains to be seen if the spirit is willing but the flesh is week. It usually is.) As a result, I am determined to keep my posts short this week (and none on Tuesday as usual) and git to gittin’!

Anjeny tagged me on Friday with the 6th folder 6th photo tag. Oh how I wish THIS picture was the 6th . . . .

OR this one .. . .

Or even this one . . ..

But instead I get to share this little bit of attitude with you all.

These were taken five years ago when we lived in a different home. If we hadn’t scooped Little Guy off the floor and taken him with us, he would no doubt still be sitting there in all his profound judgment. (We did vacuum the floor before we left. I think.)
I tag whomever wants to do this tag---especially any newbie bloggers who might not have done it yet such as Fiona, Pam and Rachel. Or not. Whatever your little heart desires.
P.S. Who thinks Hugh Jackman would make a perfect Sir Anthony? I know !

Adorable pictures. And if you saw my house right at the moment, you'd feel oh so much better about yours.

And yes, Hugh! He's dreamy.

Love the flowers! I am still under two feet of snow up here. The flowers have perked me up:) Thank you!

I just adored Hugh Jackman last night...and you are right he would be just perfect in the role of Sir Anthony....in that case can I play Ginny. I would gladly suffer through endless takes of working with Hugh to get the perfect kiss.

When my eldest was about four, I once said, "Come on, girls, we need to clean up this house." Said daughtered replied, "Who's coming over?" Am I a good mom or what?

Our computer was infected with a virus just after the Holidays, and I ended up getting a new one. I don't think I have six folders in my current picture file, but I'll see what I can do...

Hugh was amazing last night. Please let him come back next year!

February 23, 2009 at 1:00 PM

Hugh Jackman would make a great Sir Anthony! Good luck with the cleaning this week. Feel free to stop by and do my house too.

LOVE the pictures! What darling kids. That asleep on the couch one is so perfect. You see that soft sweet baby skin. I love it.

Happy cleaning!

It is always fun to see pictures from this tag.

February 23, 2009 at 1:35 PM

Um... I'm going to go vacuum, bye!

February 23, 2009 at 1:52 PM

Aww but I love this picture. He looks so adorable sitting there.

Thanks for indulging me.

I love these pictures!

Cute pictures! And, good luck with the house. I loved the way you described it as tumbling down around you. Cleaning a house is like building a sand castle when the tide is coming in!!!!

What is Hugh Jackman not perfect for the handsome good guy? Seriously, he is one beautiful man. (Glad my hubby doesn't read my comments. I think he'd be sad I was eyeing Jackman- yummy!) Oh Crash needs him on her Jack list.

Love the post, I'm thinking I might participate. Hey, you need to check out the winner of my Nastola Kitchen Contest! It was good times!

You've got cute kids, Heids. Cute kids! I swear, you put some kind of dye in their eyes because whenever you post one, their eyes just POP off the screen. Wow.

Ah, Hugh...
Yummers.

Aren't the flowers pretty? Even when you aren't under two feet of snow, it's a welcome sight! Heather, YOU should see MY house--yikes! Christine, how funny! I hear ya! Lara--yes, like he said in the BW interview there needs to be more show in the Oscars and less biz. He proved himself right last night! Becky, do I have to? No, really, you wouldn't want me to, I'm terrible at it but today I did buy a box of Mr. Clean eraser sponges and a bottle of kaboom. If there is anything left, I'll send it on to you. Lisa, I know, I just want to suck the skin right off his cheeks. And then the fat. Anjeny, thanks, I haven't done this tag before so thanks for that! Heatherlyn, ain't it the truth? Julie, I think a combo of Hugh Jackman and a young Clint Eastwood would be perfect (I like Clint's nose a bit better and he makes the best stoic type expressions). Laura-- the Little Guy has pretty intense eyes. He and the Middle Child both have large eyes so maybe that's what makes them look so poppy. :)

Hugh Jackman= Antho-licious! Btw, your Little Guy is so adorable!

February 23, 2009 at 6:21 PM

Ah, Hugh. De-lish.

Good luck with the housework this week. May the force be with you.

February 23, 2009 at 6:43 PM

Heidi, I sent it to Heidiashworth@gmail.com. That may not even be your address, it was just my best guess. I wrote a little blurb on my blog though and I'll be sure to get a real thank you to you.

February 23, 2009 at 7:15 PM

Oh how cute!

Even your hubby is cute!

I'm on my way to see the pics I missed because of my ADDD and ODDD.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one Jami dumped.

Hey, I just got an email/comment from you. I'm at your place and your at mine.

I feel so close to you now.

February 23, 2009 at 7:23 PM

Super cute pictures! I think I'll take your lead and not blog so much this week to ummmmm yeah to organize. (Not take care of all the relatives coming in for the funeral at ALL) :)

February 23, 2009 at 7:36 PM

Kazzy--antho-licious? Is that like anthropologie? I don't get it and I feel left out. And like I'm missing something terribly important because you said it and it's about Hugh. It's okay. It'll come to me. Eventually. Probably in the middle of the night when I'm lying awake trying to figure it out. But no guilt, okay? :)Becky, thanks! I would say you too but you just moved into a nice clean BRAND NEW HOUSE! Woo hoo! Janelle--it's write2me@heidiashworth.com b/c I'm egotistical like that, Crash, and now you have an email from me too--woo hoo! Melinda--hang in there!

February 23, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Hey good point, I think he would make a good Sir Anthony indeed --while reading your book I got a little crush on Sir Anthony. I think the "art" of cleanliness or the appearance of --is often all about repositioning and FLOWERS.

February 23, 2009 at 8:26 PM

Is that me rachel? there are a few blogging rachel's out there. . . and I have a similar picture of my 3 year old giving me a similar look. It is one of my favorite pictures. It makes me laugh every time!

February 23, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Sorry... bad play on Sir Anthony.

February 23, 2009 at 9:51 PM

My kids pretend to vacuum all the time.

Sigh.

February 23, 2009 at 10:21 PM

Wendy, you don't know how that makes my heart go pitty-pat! Rachel--yes, YOU. :) Kazzy--I'm the one who's sorry. I'm sure it's hysterical if I could just figure it out. I'm hopelessly dense sometimes. Stacey--I know, huh? Kim--that's adorable! My kid wasn't vacuuming, he was just looking meaningfully back and forth between it and me (JK, who knows what he was thinking--he was two!)

February 24, 2009 at 7:21 AM

vacuum? ummm... I think I have one of those... maybe I should attempt to use it? Tomorrow... or maybe Saturday - whenever bookfair is DONE!

February 24, 2009 at 9:03 AM

I'd love to be tagged ... yay, my first tag!! lol, off to find out what the rules are!

February 24, 2009 at 10:12 AM

Your kids are darling! What cute pictures. I loved the look on the face of your sleeping little guy in the first picture. Way too cute. It makes me just want to hug him. I also had to laugh at your comment about your house. My sister had just been telling me how her two-year old was walking around the house, pointing at things and saying, "Gross!" She decided it was time to clean. My two year olds just made messes!

February 24, 2009 at 12:12 PM

Dont do it... Put that broom down and run.. especially since it was Crash that got you in the mood for cleaning! LOL! Did you at least have good music on while you cleaned your house?

Im so excited to read the book! I just ordered one for my girlfriend's bday so we can read it together!

If i had a nickel for everytime my children gave me "that" look... I'd be able to buy your book for every one of my girlfriends! and then some!

February 24, 2009 at 6:18 PM

T, by all means, wait until bookfair is done. What other reason is there to volunteer outside the home, right? Fiona, I can't wait to see your photo! Joy, thank you! Yes, those two year olds are pretty observant! Iwa, one for you and one for your friend? Tell her to move over b/c you're my new best friend!!

February 24, 2009 at 7:17 PM

I think the picture of the little guy is the BEST one!! Maybe becaust it reminds me of so many pictures I have of my own kids. I used to tell the photographer, I don't care if they are smiling or not, as long as they aren't crying, take the picture.
Good luck with the house cleaning, and just so you know, once you get it all done, it will get dirty again!
But, the feeling of a totally clean house, is worth the effort every time.

That baby is CUTE!

February 24, 2009 at 8:59 PM

hahahaha! The first two sentances totally nailed my hoeskeeping :D

Adorable pics! All of them

February 24, 2009 at 9:41 PM

Contests are made so much better whenever you play as you like, rather than as you should, don't you agree? You are a much more honest person than me.

Reading over your fun(nish) factoids as I write this. How do you ever find the time to blog? You are amazing.
