"Miss D Has A New Look" Win A Book Contest

Posted by Heidi in

Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind comes out in May in large print through Thorndike. She'll be a whopping 346 pages (bigger print=more pages) and sporting a new cover. Tell me what you think! Leave a comment or vote via the poll in my sidebar. (Can you tell I'm brain dead today? In fact, I am so lacking in brain power this morning, I'm going to allow myself to hold a giveaway for a copy of the new and substantially more expensive Miss D. Yes, this is your chance to own a larger than life version of Miss Delacourt Speaks Her Mind smothered in what looks like royal frosting roses! Yum! For a chance to win, leave a comment on this post. For a second chance at winning, blog about it, include the permalink to this post and be sure to come back and tell me that you did so I know--because, I'm brain dead. Did I mention that? The winner to be announced Monday April 6th at 6 P.M. California time. Tell your friends!) (Also, if you comment and it isn't showing up, it's because I have my comments set up to be moderated after three days--just go ahead and click and I'll get it published ASAP. Thanks!)

82 wise, witty and wonderful comments

I have to admit, I like the old cover better. I love the hot pink rose against the black.

April 2, 2009 at 9:53 AM

Ooh-I like both covers. I think I'm used to the old one...but this one is cool, too.

April 2, 2009 at 10:03 AM

Love, love love it!
I like this one more! Very contemporary.

April 2, 2009 at 10:04 AM

I really like Double Delight as a rose, so I like the old cover better. If I'd never seen the other cover I think I would like this one.

I would still be thrilled to win a copy.

April 2, 2009 at 10:04 AM

i love this one. you can almost smell the rose! it's beautiful!

April 2, 2009 at 10:05 AM

Beautiful. What do you think?

April 2, 2009 at 10:05 AM

i agree kristina! but i don't want heidi to cry.
oh and i have the regular print book so i don't want to steel the chance of some other person to win this wonderful book. so i am not entering.. {and the roses are beautiful!}

April 2, 2009 at 10:06 AM

I like the new cover because I like simple font. For some crazy reason, I feel like I would enjoy a book more if I can read the font on the front more easily!

Yes, I know, sometimes I feel like I'm not playing with a full deck.

April 2, 2009 at 10:07 AM

Kazzy--what do I think? I love that you can actually read my name on the new cover but I would have preferred the roses to be either more red or more pink. I'm picky about my roses!

April 2, 2009 at 10:15 AM

OHHHHH! I am so in on this one. Maybe I won't have to wear my freakin' glasses to read it. YEAH! Not that my glasses are awful (they are functional and they do hide my face!).

LOVE the new cover. Loved the old one. Good times.

I like the elegance of the old black cover but combined with the beautiful, vivid crispness of the new rose. (And love Miss D. as I do, I'm going with Gramee and saying don't enter me because I want someone who hasn't gotten a chance to read it yet to read it and love it.) I'm super thrilled for you!

April 2, 2009 at 10:31 AM

". . . smothered in what looks like royal frosting roses! Yum!" LOL. (and you know I don't say LOL). If I win I may have a hard time not licking the cover. . . (I do like it, BTW)

April 2, 2009 at 10:39 AM

I really like the rose. But I don't love the font. That's just me. I'm sure I'll love the book when I win it, especially since my glasses broke in half and it makes reading in bed a little complicated because I don't want to wear my contacts after I've snuggled down in bed.

April 2, 2009 at 10:55 AM

Oh, and I'm linking to it on my blog!

April 2, 2009 at 11:02 AM

Hee hee--Lara, way to be optimistic! Erin--got it, thanks! Lisa, I'm not surprised you have taken to licking books what with your sugar deprivation there in Poland. :)

April 2, 2009 at 11:04 AM

Heidi (don't enter me either, because I own the orig. book - hee hee hee, aren't you so jealous? j/k) I really like the roses on the new cover. Very beautiful. I also love the font, but the white is a bit hard to see.

I like the new cover (and I'd be ever so pleased if my royal frosting roses came out so well) but I think the original cover is more in keeping with the period of the novel.

April 2, 2009 at 11:31 AM

Heidi...this book is MINE...don't EVEN think about being fair about it. honestly, you KNOW you want me to have it, so just go through the motions and make sure I win...

Just saying

I posted it on my blog also!

April 2, 2009 at 11:35 AM

I honestly couldn't decide. I like things about them both--mainly I like red roses better than pink and I like black roses best of all. . .but that doesn't apply here. I like the layout of the old but the color of the new. How's that for indecisive!

April 2, 2009 at 11:50 AM

ME! ME! ME! I really need something good to read, I would so LOVE to win this!! (And I suppose if I HAVE to, I'll just buy it if I don't win--but NO I want to WIN!!) I like both covers! :)

April 2, 2009 at 11:51 AM

I love it! Delicious.

April 2, 2009 at 11:57 AM

I like the new one MUCH better. Simply because the old one reminds me of the cover of another book. And this other book is very overrated...

April 2, 2009 at 12:06 PM

It certainly is not bad, but lacks the same oomph as the original cover. I also prefer the font change on the original cover (Miss Delacourt font vs. speaks her mind font).

PS, I looked at a few clips of Lost in Austen on YouTube after your mention on it--it looks so good! I may have to buy it when it comes out in a few weeks.

Bigger print, bigger rose. Works. Except for some reason it looks like a hallmark sympathy card to me. Nice name, though. I mean your name. Front and (almost) center. Looks good.

April 2, 2009 at 12:26 PM

Oh la likey. Very nice Heidi. I am red kind of rose.

April 2, 2009 at 12:27 PM

i quite like the cover. it's so pink! and i quite like pink. therefore, it's all quite likable. :) enter me just for fun. the odds of me winning are quite slim!

April 2, 2009 at 1:01 PM

Yummy, looks good enough to eat. Like both.

April 2, 2009 at 1:01 PM

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Miss Delacourt. It was well worth the trip to the library. Don't worry I had a lot of other errands to take care of over by that library.
My husband was actually a bit irritated because I got so involved in the book, I stayed up until past midnight to finish it Tuesday night. It was just so good I couldn't put it down. Congratulations on a great book. Can't wait for Miss D 2!!

April 2, 2009 at 1:11 PM

This one is the best. I love the larger then life roses.

April 2, 2009 at 1:11 PM

Heidi, I think Shelle and I should wrestle over this book...she's won so many prizes already...I WANT this book I want I want...lol.

I'm not picky, I like both covers. The way my luck is, I have no chance of winning this just by random picking but it doesn't hurt to try right?

I think the cosmos are working against me or something or my hubby must be praying real hard that I don't come across another book since I tend to completely abandon them when I find a good book to read.

April 2, 2009 at 1:37 PM

Oh yeah...WAY to GO on the book. A real pleasure blogging with a honest to goodness down to earth novelist.

I LOVE the new cover! The very idea that it looks like frosting -- that sold me! The rose on black was quiet lovely, but you're right, it smacks a little too much of a certain vampire series that shall remain nameless. This one is definitely more Miss D.! And if, by some stroke of luck, I should happen to win a SECOND copy of this book, I'm going to donate it to my local library because there are a lot of local bloggers who want to read this book, too! (And I'm too selfish to loan mine out! ;-)

April 2, 2009 at 1:43 PM

I like both. . . but I think I slightly favor the original. And since that trip to amazon has yet to be made, I can't tell you how much I would love to win a copy!

April 2, 2009 at 1:48 PM

Oh, since I found out that your are an actual author, and that you wrote this awesome book, I've been dying to read it! I really want to win!
p.s. If you ever decide to do a Youtube trailer to promote your book, I might know someone who has really awesome piano music that you can use as background music for it for a great deal!!
(I'm all about shameless self promotion)

April 2, 2009 at 2:54 PM

I like the original a tad more - I like the contrasting black/pink combo and the font.

Why a new cover?

April 2, 2009 at 2:57 PM

Val---good question! It's a different publisher for the large print--I have no idea why they do their own cover. It's a mystery . . .

April 2, 2009 at 3:10 PM

count me in! I'd love either as a win. I love the old one, on the black, but this one suite the "large print" that it is...

if that makes sense.

it most likely doesn't...since I'm brain dead too :)

April 2, 2009 at 5:25 PM

Heather--that's what I was thinking--it's living large, like the print.

April 2, 2009 at 5:53 PM

the old one was more striking thanks for the giveaway

April 2, 2009 at 5:57 PM

This is the first time I've commented on your blog. You're a very talented lady. I'm excited to read your book and the newest book?...delicious!

April 2, 2009 at 6:54 PM

That deep red rose is very sultry looking.

April 2, 2009 at 7:36 PM

I have to admit I like the black one....but it could be that I just finished the first two in the Twilight series too, and those black covers with flowers rock. i am hoping to win a copy for my grandmother since I wouldn't let her keep my copy, and I haven't yet made it to buy her one of her very own (such a lazy grandaughter)

April 2, 2009 at 7:37 PM

I LOVE how the rose takes up the entire cover!
Please enter me....I'm heading back to my place to post about it!
Good luck everyone~
♥,Lilly

April 2, 2009 at 7:42 PM

I like the color of these roses. Why the change though?

Count me in to win this one!

April 2, 2009 at 8:10 PM

Um, I really like the other one better. :)

April 2, 2009 at 8:33 PM

This cover screams PASSION! I would so love to win this book, since I haven't read it yet, and I've requested it from our local library, but it hasn't come in yet. The big print just means I could read it comfortably without my contacts in.

April 2, 2009 at 8:35 PM

This si super pretty but there's something just so eye catching about the old one.

I'd be excited to win the new cover version, though!

April 2, 2009 at 9:15 PM

I like them both but I think I like this one best.

April 2, 2009 at 9:59 PM

That's cool. Now that I've read it I understand why the roses on the cover. I'm looking forward to the second book!

I read about your book on a friend's site. Good luck with it!

April 2, 2009 at 10:22 PM

I like the other cover better, but the new cover isn't too bad. I just think the other cover is more hip and in fashion and the new one is a bit more stodgy. But then again, it is aimed at big-print people ;)

I love the new cover. I liked the last one as well, this one is simply beautifully!

April 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM

Love the new one and Miss D is fabulous.

April 3, 2009 at 10:25 AM

I'm always looking for new books!

April 3, 2009 at 10:34 AM

I like them both equally... I love pink and roses and pretty things. Both are lovely.

April 3, 2009 at 10:39 AM

Oh, the current version is sitting in my shopping cart on amazon for me. I'll have to wait and see if I can win this version for my mom! I can't wait to read it :)

April 3, 2009 at 12:37 PM

Ok Heidi, I missed out on a chance to win the first Miss D so I am not going to miss out this one too..LOL. I've made a post on my blog about your give-away. Thank you for the chance to win something I would totally enjoy reading.

April 3, 2009 at 1:09 PM

I like them both! They have completely different moods, though.

I know; that's no help at all.

April 3, 2009 at 1:49 PM

You know, I have a broken foot and my kids both have temperatures of 104*. Now that you feel sorry for me, you DO dont you, I really need a good book to read. this will fit the bill nicely.
Really, I would love to win this, and I'm not lying about the sickness and injuries.

April 3, 2009 at 2:04 PM

like the new cover but roses should have been pinker

April 3, 2009 at 2:52 PM

Love to have this.

Thanks,

April 3, 2009 at 3:08 PM

I like the original cover better, but this one does look delicious @@

2 nights ago I looked your book up on Amazon to see if it was in stock again...I'm ready to win :)

April 3, 2009 at 4:22 PM

I like both covers. This one is very appealing to me though.

April 3, 2009 at 9:58 PM

I would love to enter your giveaway please. I read about it on my blog friend Anjeny's blog. I'm not sure if NZ's is okay to enter though. I sure would love to read your novel.

April 3, 2009 at 10:28 PM

Both covers are great, but I like the other one better. It stands out more. But this one is also delightful.

April 3, 2009 at 11:47 PM

It's soothing and romantic. Perfect.

April 4, 2009 at 10:43 AM

Hmmm. Tough choice. Both look great. But this one really does scream "romance."

I have to admit...I chat at you in Crash's comment box but have never been over here! It looks great!

I'm coming over to help Shelle Blok win.
So if this entry is pulled, she can have it. (Not that I don't want it!!! I'm going to put in on my Amazon watch list.)

Congrats!

The cover looks great...you can almost feel the velvet petals of the red, red rose. And the larger print would be a relief to me. asthenight at gmail dot com

April 5, 2009 at 2:52 PM

I love the new cover and the opportunity to read a book without my glasses almost makes me delirious! Thanks for the giveaway.

April 5, 2009 at 5:05 PM

Whew, I made it under the wire for the give away. Please enter moi in the contest, and also note that I made a little post for you on my blog.

Oh, and I really like the new cover. I am kind of a simple, plane lines kind of person so the font appeals very much to my little brain.

Wish I was in Utah to see you at the end of the month, hopefully all the fam there will come in droves to support you.

April 5, 2009 at 8:41 PM

How fun! I like the cover for this one too. Big print huh? Exciting! So if I win this, I will still be able to read it when I am old and wrinkly and gray... how fabulous!

April 6, 2009 at 3:34 PM

While I like both covers, I tend to favor the first more. Though it IS interesting to me that the second cover, for the Large Print version is a large version of a rose. ;-)

April 6, 2009 at 5:06 PM

I like this new cover. It sets the book apart :) I liked the old one too though...

April 8, 2009 at 4:54 PM
